‘C’ You At The Fair!
Hello Region C…
Your Region C Staff and the Iowa Rally Committee have been planning and tweaking the 2015 Rally Schedule, and now it’s ready…and it’s a doozie! We have a whole lot of fun events planned for you to participate in and enjoy at the Region C ‘County Fair’.
Take a look at the schedule and you’ll see that this year’s rally starts with Opening Ceremonies on Friday morning, June 12th, and runs through Saturday night, June 13th. If you will be camping and want to come earlier than Thursday or stay longer, the Poweshiek County Fairground’s campground will be open. You can pay the attendant on site or put the camping fee into the dropbox for those extra nights. Otherwise, you will pay the Region through your registration for Thursday through Saturday night. If you’re not camping, there are several motels right off of I-80 at the Grinnell, IA, exit including our host hotel, the Best Western. See the rally flyer for details and get your reservations made.
If you have not yet registered for the rally, there are a couple more fee deadlines before increases. Again, please refer to the registration forms which should have been emailed to your Chapter Director for forwarding to the membership, or you can download them from the website: gwta-c.com. Watch the website and our Facebook page for rally updates, too.
A second email will be coming to you shortly with attachments outlining a few really great activities unique to this particular rally given its theme. Friday evening, we will have a ‘Husband’ Calling Contest (or significant other) for our female members, so practice and perfect your yell; and we’ll be having a Fair King Pageant where each chapter will choose one of its guys to represent them… perhaps he’ll get crowned! Watch for the rules for these two events and, let’s have some fun…but, keep in mind that kids may be present! The third activity outlined will be the Saturday morning Midway Games. This is an opportunity for the States and/or chapters to make a little money and get in on the fun. We are asking each State to provide at least 2 Midway games to set up at the ‘fair'; they should be portable and easy to put together. You will also need to provide prizes, something small, maybe a snack, etc. Use your imaginations! A few suggestions for games will be given to you in that email.
You won’t go hungry at this rally: we’ll have omelets provided on Friday morning by Gary & Betty Smith for a free-will donation; we’ll have a free pizza & salad dinner on Friday evening, plus ice cream and brownies after the light parade, donations accepted. On Saturday morning, you can pre-pay through registration for a fantastic full breakfast which will be prepared by JR & Karen Green. Hint…they are wonderful cooks! During the second day, there will be ‘Fair’ food available for you to purchase such as hotdogs & popcorn. And of course, your Saturday evening catered meal is included in your rally registration fee.
Speaking of food and making things…we’re having the Region C Rally version of a Juried Exhibit of home made arts, crafts, baked goods, etc. Get busy canning, knitting, painting or sawing and bring your creations to enter into the competition. There will be 1st and 2nd place ribbons awarded in nine categories with a Best of Show ribbon for one creative guy and one creative woman. After the competition, you may take your creations home or donate them to the auctions to benefit the Region and the new Family of the Year.
You’ll want to come prepared for these tried-and-true rally events: bring Dirty Bingo gifts for 2 rounds on Friday; and practice your skills for the on-bike games and States’ Challenge games on Saturday afternoon! I can’t wait for these games…Iowa has some hilarious challenges planned…so get your cameras ready! There will be whipped cream & cow patties involved! And, don’t forget the supplies to shine up your bike before you enter it in the Bike Show. You might find you are the recipient of a 1st Place ribbon in one of the categories or perhaps the coveted ‘Best of Show’. Finally, this year’s Illumination Procession will take us past a local hospital and a nursing home, both of which will be alerted to our approximate arrival times. I’m sure the patients and residents will get a kick out of seeing all our beautiful bikes and lights!
We hope to have a few vendors at the rally, but I can tell you that Garvis Honda from Des Moines will have a booth set up for the weekend, and they are the ones providing the pizza for Friday’s dinner. Please be sure to stop by their booth and see what they have to offer.
Iowa Directors, JR & Karen Green, and their Rally Committee are looking forward to hosting this year’s event. Iowa is beautiful in June, and your ride to Grinnell and back should be pretty spectacular! Bring your 40′ & 50′ styled ‘County Fair’ attire to wear on Friday, and don’t forget your Chapter shirts for Saturday. Gather up your chapter members, plan your route, and come join us! You won’t go away disappointed. Who doesn’t have a great time at the Region C Rally? After all, it’s one of the best places to see all your great friends from across the Region and beyond!
