2009 Region C Rally Rides

Hello everyone.  This is just a quick note to tell you about some of the self guided rides that Darrell Broten has provided for the Region C Rally.  They are all now posted on the site for you to download (look for the download link).  If you have any questions pop a note off in the forum or feedback form.

To see the rides look for the RIDES link in the Region C Rally BLOG.

Little House In The Big Woods ride--this ride contains some nice curves with some educational and historical value thrown in.  The rider has to put up with a bit of expressway riding to get to the good stuff, but Cty. Hwy N to Pepin is worth it.  It's set up so that the major stops are to one's right.  Stop at least 30 minutes at the Museum.  The Laura Ingalls cabin historical marker is a simple, stark, and practical wayside.  Cty. Hwy. S east back to Cty. N is a handful.

Ride To Eau Galle Cheese Factory--this is the shortest of the self-guided rides and hopefully the most ridden of the rides.  Basically a destination ride, it is a shortened version of the "Little House" ride.  We would like everyone to stop at Eau Galle Cheese Factory because it is the place to get your Wisconsin souvenir.

Ride To The St. Croix Casino--at this printing I have not yet actually ridden this route. However, the route is all County Hwys. for a more intimate look at what is called Wisconsin Indianhead country.  This, too, is a destination ride:  to the casino.  Be on the watch for gentle grades and curves in northern Dairyland.

Riding Highway 88--the object of this ride is to experience Hwy. 88 in both directions, from Gilmanton to Hwy. 35 and back again.  Pack a snack and a beverage and be fueled, because there is little in the way of services on the highway.  The road surface is a bit disappointing (5 on a scale of 10), but the scenery is pure dugway Wisconsin.  Since road surface is a subjective thing, one still has to ride it to see for sure if the pavement takes away from the view.  I don't think so--but one has to ride with care.

To Hansen's Hold Up--I recommend this ride along with the "Little House" ride.  You leave and return the fairgrounds a different way, see different scenery, and the main attraction--Hansen's Hold Up--is again on your right.  The Hold Up is a western themed biker bar at which the bikers from Winona, LaCrosse, and Wabasha congregate for good food and a grand view.  On a clear day you can see over 20 miles away.  From there to Arcadia is six miles of curves on a par with Arkansas.   Saturday is the day for this ride because The HoldUp opens at noon that day.

Region C Tailgate Party
Hello, Our Region C Tailgate Party is coming up sooner than you think! We have an awful lot of things on the agenda to make this one of the most memorable Region Rallies you have ever been to.

First, if you have not sent in your registrations yet please get them in to take advantage of the early registration price of only $22.50 per person. On May 1, 2009 the price goes to $30.00 per person, kids under 16 get in for $13.00. If you would like a Rally T-shirt or a polo you will need to have your order in by May 23 so that we can get the orders in to our shirt printer. Camping is right there on site this year with plenty of electricity and full hook-ups for those that wish to camp Several have already sent in their registrations and are planning to come in on Thursday.

On Friday we will kick off the party at 9AM with lots of rides already put together by the members in Wisconsin. On Friday afternoon we will be having a Battle of the Region C States. Iowa has come up with some very interesting games that include bragging rights to the region’s best ice cream eaters. There will be awards given for the chapter with the best team colors and lots of fun so come prepared to represent your chapter and state. At 5PM our Region Web Master Jeromy Frum will be conducting a seminar on how to use your Region C Web Site http://gwta-c.com/ . Then at 6:30 PM on Friday will have our opening Ceremonies. Friday Evening will include Dirty Bing and a drive in movie at the fairgrounds. Saturday will be jamb packed with stuff to keep you busy.

First thing Saturday morning will be a family breakfast that is included in your registration. We will have fun with putting some of our members in jail so that they can try to raise the bail to get free, so keep an eye on your fellow members to make sure they are not committing any infringement on the law. Mike and Carol will be holding a seminar on member education, so if you have any questions about GWTA let them know. There will be rides again, a tour of Lineinguegals Brewery, a Bike Show, Dirty Bingo again and a live Auction. Then to top off the evening we will have a family dinner that is included in your registration and then our Awards Ceremony. To end the evening we will be going to Oleson’s Ice Cream for a light Show and Ice Cream.

On Sunday morning we will have Church Services for those that would like to come. I would like for each chapter that is coming to Region C Rally to bring two items for our Live Auction and if you plan to participate in Dirty Bingo pleas bring a gift for each Dirty Bing you plan to participate in. I would also like for everyone that attend to bring their enthusiasm for fun! On Friday evening we will be taking Nominations for the Ron Brooks Spirit Award, so if you have someone that you know that has represented GWTA Destination Friendship over the last year please put together a brief explanation of why you believe that person would be worthy of the Ron Brooks Spirit Award. May will be designated as Ron Brooks Awareness month.

Ron Brooks was one of our first members of GWTA. He always looked for the fun that could be had with people and always did his best to be apart of it. He never looked at the obstacles that kept him from enjoying others friendships and was always out looking for new friends to enjoy good times with. Ron always had a can do attitude. Remember this is your rally. This is your chance to get out and met new friends and reconnect with old friends you have made. Wisconsin GWTA members promise some of the best riding you will ever have and I promise all the fun you can handle. Rick and Kandie

Region C Family of the Year
This year I am asking all of our Region C States to bring a State Basket filled with products that represent their individual state. Wisconsin could have different cheese or items related to the Packers, Nebraska might have products related to corn or wine from a local winery. These baskets will be put up for Auction on Saturday afternoon to the highest bidder. The proceeds for this auction will then be made available to our 2009-2010 Region C Family of the Year for any expenses they might incur while representing Region C as our Family of the Year.

Tail Gate Party
Region C Rally plans have been finalized and I can guarantee everyone a great time this year in Chippewa Falls, WI. I would like to thank Jeryl and Sherri Vonderhied, Wisconsin State Directors and their staff for all of the work they have already done to make this year’s Family Reunion a success. To start off with for your registration this year you will be receiving two meals, yes two meals. The Region will supply a fantastic breakfast on Saturday morning and also the meal Saturday evening just before the Awards Ceremony. If you have never ridden the roads in Wisconsin you are in for a treat. In my opinion Wisconsin roads are some of the best of what America has to offer. On Friday evening we will have a drive inn movie night right at the fair grounds. Friday after noon will also offer the opportunity to participate in the State Battle games and to show your state spirit. The Registration Fliers are now available through your chapter directors or on the Region C Web Site http://gwta-c.com/GWTARegionCForum/ also check out the Region C Blog page for updates on our Tail Gate Party http://gwta-c.com/GWTARegionCForum/blogs/2009_region_c_rally/default.aspx

Tailgate Party
I just talked to our "Ride" King and he has put together some very nice rides for the rally. Wisconsin has some of the best roads for cycling. We may not have Colorado cutbacks, but we have windy river roads, plenty of hills and lots of good scenery. The Drive-In Movie Night at the Fairgrounds will be a great time also!!! If you ever wanted to try out camping, this is the year for it. Awesome camping at the fairgrounds...full hookups or electric only!! There is a dumpstation on site also!

We are off and Running
This last weekend your Region C Staff spent some time planning your next Region C Rally. After Returning home I have to tell you that this years rally will be on you do not want to miss. We have some very exciting events lined up and a few firsts. With your registration this year not only will you get Saturday evenings award banquet dinner served tailgate party style you will also get a wonderful breakfast on Saturday morning. The registration Flier will be out very shortly and you will notice that the Registration costs will be the same as last year but camping fees will be a little cheaper than last years. We want everyone that can make it to come. With the economy as it is I know that we all are watching what we spend and need to get the most bang for our dollar. I promise you that you will not be disappointed with this years rally. We do have a pin stripper coming this year and we are trying to find someone for embroidery. Region C Rally has never been about the vendor's and I do not want to see it become that. Region C Rally is our Family Reunion. It is our opportunity to play with friends that we have met from other states and to make new friendships. This is a Riding Rally and I have had the chance to ride the roads in Wisconsin several times, You will not be disappointed.

2009 Region C Rally
2009 Region C Rally Logo by Jen Lipe

Hi everyone!  This is your friendly GWTA Webmaster speaking to you about the upcoming 2009 Region C Rally in Chippewa Falls, Wi.  I just got back from the 2009 Region C Rally planning meeting which Jen and Randy put into motion before Rick took over and I must say, this years event looks to be one heck of a rally.  Although it's very cold up there right now we were assured that all of that would be corrected before the event.

The fairgrounds, the site of the rally sits right next to the Leinenkugel's Beer Factory which gives free tours and free beer samples all within walking distance.  Even better is that this year there will be plenty of electricty for RV's for all sizes.  If you ever thought about camping this would be the location to do it.

Fliers are currently being drafted and information is pouring in as I sit here in the cold basement of my home typing this.  As information becomes available, I'll be posting it here on the new Region C Rally Blog.  I created a new space for this information to keep it independent from last years Camp Catron Rally.

Located along the side menu bar will be category links that you can click on for specific information.  So that means if you want to find ice cream, click on ice cream.  You'll find ice cream.  It's just that simple.  As of now I just have the most vital information posted (like suggested lodging and ice cream).  Other information will follow real soon so please check this site often.

If you have any questions regarding this site or the rally please let me or your friendly Region C Staff know.  Your friendly Wisconsin Directors have scouted out what they feel are the very best motel locations (if you aren't camping).  You should consider this list first over any others.  Again, more information will be coming to you soon so check back frequently.
