GWTA Nebraska State Directors Column - December 2005

FROM THE STATE DIRECTORS . . .
BOB & LYNDA WILKINSON
THANKSGIVING GREETINGS We anxiously await this holiday as an estimated forty family members converge on my father’s home in southwest Nebraska on Thanksgiving Day to catch up on family events and greet the newest additions to the family. As we prepare the bountiful dinner, we will occasionally peek around the corner to catch a glimpse of the magnificent floats in the Macy’s Day Parade. When the preparations are done, it will be time to call the “family” to attention, bow our heads and recall our blessings. Then the chaos begins! Succulent turkey, ham, and goose; simmering gravy and mashed potatoes; raisin sauce; salads; poppyseed, cream cheese, and cherry kolaches; and sinful, delicious desserts will decorate the Thanksgiving table. Afterwards, there is the usual clean-up, football games (both on TV and outside), and culminating with the putting up of the Christmas tree, adorned with ceramic stars with a family members name inscribed on each, and outdoor decorations. Too soon, it is time to pack up and head for home. Early the next morning, we’ll be heading for Estes Park for the Festival of Lights Parade, an annual trek for us and our family.
When we reflect on the above paragraph, it reminded us much of our recent preparations for the Nebraska Fall Follies and the Hollywood Nights: days of planning, packing up the “stuff”, phone calls, frantic e-mails, repacking, returning, and all the other things that are needed for a successful get together. Together, we had the perfect setting to renew and create new friendships, eat, laugh, have fun, and just plain, enjoy each other’s company. We truly are blessed by all the friendships we have made.
The Fall Follies and Hollywood Nights are “A Wrap” as the motion picture industry would call it. There are plenty of thanks to go around to all the members that helped in any way and to those that attended and had fun. We will have a summation of the event at a later date and will pass that on to you as the information becomes available.
Now it is time to move on to the upcoming Chapter Christmas Parties that are listed on the Nebraska website. On the 3rd of December, we have Chapter W starting at 6PM (place to be announced) and Chapter Z, starting at 6PM at the Lakeland Estates in Blair, NE. Chapter G will host their Christmas party on the 10th at the Robidoux home in Lincoln with Chapter E to follow on the 13th at The Depot in North Platte at 7PM. Chapter C’s is on the 14th at 6:30 at the Pizza Kitchen in Milford, and lastly, is Chapter B’s on the 17th at Piccolo Pete’s in Omaha. You can check out all these events and more at www.gwtanebraska.com. When you’re making out your Christmas list, you might consider giving a gift of a registration to the Region C Rally or Gold Rush.
Speaking of registrations, it’s not too early to start registering for those events. We can’t express strongly enough how important it is to get those reservations in early to help plan these events. It makes it extremely difficult to plan when you don’t know how many are coming.
With that, we bring November to an end and wish you a bountiful and Happy Thanksgiving.
Until next time…. See ya’ on the road.
